i do not need another hobby. i do not need another hobby. i'm going to keep repeating this to myself. while the girls napped this afternoon, i left andy in charge so i could make a run to an adorable quilting/knitting shop we have. my mission? to choose fabrics for a quilt for C's toddler bed she'll be getting for her birthday. she's still in her crib as she loves it and she's never attempted to escape.
will i be making said quilt? um, no. my sewing machine and i tend to not like each other. i can't imagine the words that might come out of my mouth if i tried to make a quilt. yet another reason i don't need another hobby besides the obvious that there aren't enough hours in the day. instead, i kindly asked my dear mother-in-law if she'd make said quilt if i provided the fabric. my dear father-in-law was kindly asked to act as assistant contractor for the actual toddler bed. they both agreed and a birthday plan was born. i had picked out this pattern earlier this summer to use "sometime" and it will work perfectly. will just need to make it a bit longer.
i ended up spending an hour and a half on this task. i knew once i found the first piece of fabric to use as a jumping point i'd be okay. but finding that first piece took some time. i was trying to find something that included a lot of the colors of her room - teal, green, orange and yellow. this allows me to not repaint - not doing that - and to reuse the same sheets that she already has. i finally found what i was looking for - michael miller's limeade vintage paisley. i was using my memory as a guide for color choices and was more than ecstatic to see that it was dead on to the color of her walls and her rug when i brought it home.
i couldn't tell you what the rest of the fabrics are. they're a mix of this and a mix of that. i tried to include things that i loved and were my style but yet incorporate things that she'd love like the orange "firefly" and the green with the yellow bird pattern.
now everything will wait patiently in a bag for nana's arrival in a couple of weeks for her to work her magic. once again i say it sure is nice to have a crafty nana around!

Gorgeous fabrics! I tried to make a quilt and failed miserably. I do have a lovely bag of fabric bits in a bag in the closet, though.

AWESOME. This will be gorgeous, I cannot wait to see! Agree, fabric is dangerous for us craft lovers...I have a cabinet full of pretty fabrics with nothing to show for it!

brilliant. That's it. I'm saving this post somewhere and we're gonna do this for L! Cannot wait. Well, that's not true. I can wait. He's perfectly content at nearly 3 months in his crib. :)

arrgghh! You and I are on the same wavelength. Josie's new bed is coming this week, incredible deal on a R&B bed... but I'm gonna wait until she's climbing out of the crib before the switch. BUT, I have my heart set on a quilt that will cost me a fortune (full size bed)... I'd die for a Nicey Jane but the fabric is tough to find, so I still search but blues and yellows are what I'm leaning towards too :)
