ten on tuesday : 4.19.11.

1.  it's been a long day.  i think the fact that it is winter again is making us a bit stir crazy.  the fact that i'm admitting it's been a long winter proves just how long it has been.  when you hear the sand trucks out on april 19th, it's not a good sign.

2.  ironically, i got my hair colored today for spring.  and was pelted with freezing rain and snow as i ran to my car to come home.

3.  the grouchy ladybug has become C's requested bedtime story for the past week or so.  it's actually a book i had put on L's christmas list not only because of her "ladybug" nickname being in the title but also because it's an eric carle book.  love his work.  so each night, C sweetly asks to borrow said book from her sister's bookshelf for her storytime.  it goes something like this :

c : ladybug can i borrow grouchy ladybug to read?

c : k?

c : thank you!

thankfully the easter bunny is bringing C her own copy so that each of the girls will have their own hardcover book for their libraries.

4.  another thing that's been on repeat around here?  40 years of sunny days.  after bathtime and L's storytime and putting her to bed, we let C decide what she'd like to do for the next 20 minutes or so before her storytime.  lately when you ask her, she'll tell you she "wants to watch bideos."  and this has been her "bideo" of choice.  as the mama, it's actually quite enjoyable to watch with her as it has the old school sesame street clips from when i was growing up that i remember so well. 

5.  currently craving a slice of chocolate pie.  i made one last week that flopped - literally - as i forgot until after i had poured the filling in the crust that it doesn't work with skim milk.  it was more like chocolate soup + crust.  still tasty, just not anything to look at.  version two in the fridge isn't much better but luckily the third one i made turned out well as i was taking it to someone.

6.  watching "young and the restless" on the dvr while folding laundry during naps or in the evening is how i treat myself after a long day.  yes, today's episode is playing as i type.  i hope they have no plans on cancelling it anytime soon like the soaps that bit the dust last week.  i started watching it the year we moved for andy's residency when i ate dinner.  andy was rarely home for dinner so it was me, y+r and thomas for dinner.

7.  C asked no less than 20 times today why it was snowing.  the only answer i could come up with besides "i don't know" was "because God decided it was a good idea."

8.  i had planned on making spinach mac + cheese for dinner this week.  that is until i picked up the called for gruyere cheese and didn't notice the $9 price tag.  um, so not going to happen.  instead we substituted quesadillas and fruit for a light dinner.  needing to find a good cheese substitute so i can test out the new recipe.

9.  i need to make a trip to costco for fabric softener.  i make my own laundry detergent but costco has the best price for fabric softener.  since i'm completely out, i've been using vinegar which is working well currently.  but i know when the weather changes - it will, right? - it doesn't tend to be so effective.

10.  my sister just texted me that today is the 14th anniversary of her first date with her husband, which happened to be my senior prom.  i told her i laughed out loud as i immediately remembered what dress she wore and her poufy hair.  we'll see how she responds...

You need to move south! It was hot here today...oh and last week too, LOL! I also LOVE chocolate pie and I never attempt the crust...just the homemade custard. Check out a cheese called comte. It is similar to gruyere and in France last year the people we met said gruyere is like American cheese and so they all eat comte. It is a bit stronger so I don't use as much of it and you can always blend it with another cheese then. And last of all, today is my 14th wedding anniversary. I think this post was meant for me to read! The girls are adorable, BTW :)

hey i've substituted "Irish Cheddar" for Gryuere - (I want to say the brand is Dubliner? It's in a paper wrapper). It's usually in with the fancy cheeses at our grocery store - works pretty well and isn't $9 expensive! :)

I made the spinach Mac w cheddar to make it more kid friendly - it was a whole lot of bleh. Very disappointing!!
