home after a week in missouri visiting family. and a trip home always seems to mean at least one trip to the basement for a tornado warning. this was last wednesday, just three days after the tornado that devasted joplin, mo. the girls were already down for their naps but C wasn't asleep yet. there are few things i'd ever wake them for but a tornado warning is certainly one of them.
andy and i took the girls and C's kitty and blanket and L's elle (elephant) and blanket and headed downstairs. my mom was in the process of getting her hair colored and came home shortly afterwards. i have a lovely shot of her with the color still on her hair that i snapped with my blackberry and sent to my sister as proof that she was with us. i know better than to post said photo on the internet so you'll have to take my word that it's priceless. it will however make it's way onto a scrapbook page.
we amused the girls by reading books, including old childcraft encylopedias about dinosaurs which C enjoyed, and letting them "type" on an old computer keyboard as we kept an eye on the weather situation on tv. luckily, we didn't receive any severe weather and only spent an hour or so downstairs.
and now it's back to our normal schedule and parenting without any additional help. sigh.

ack - glad you are safe and back home! good luck returning to normal life.. always so hard after the extra attention!
