helping my favorite preschooler.

the resident preschooler of our house. and of course, our favorite. she absolutely loves school and we all love to hear about her day when we pick her up. she continues to adore lizzie the turtle and snacks brought in by her fellow students on their special days.

and i have now become that mom...

about two years ago, our church moved into a new to us building. a great move that has granted us a newer building minus the headaches that our older building had given us. (even if it will always hold a special place in our heart is that is the building where we joined our church and C was baptized. and the stained glass windows?! a-maz-ing.) anyway, after the move, the preschool was left without a fenced in place to play outdoors. something they've been trying to remedy since then. fences are expensive! like $1200 needed for their preschool space.

so the preschool students are fundraising - obviously with the assistance of their parents. and what are they selling? pizza kits! little caesar pizza kits to be exact. an easy way for you to get dinner on the table and help provide a safe space outdoors for an amazing group of kids. (i'm working with them on a year long project so after a month, i feel qualified to say that!) the awesome part is that the preschool gets $5 from each kit ordered. and that has the possibility to add up quickly!

menu plan monday : 10.3.11.

 

a week off of menu planning and just working with what i had on hand means a less than $40 grocery trip last week.  i'll still consider that a success!

after filing a bunch of recipes i've pulled recently from magazines, i'm excited to jump back into things this week.  looks to be a great week weather-wise so i'm trying to go for easy recipes that will allow us to get out and play without much dinner prep needed.

meatless monday : peas + cheese tortellini.  haven't made this in awhile and the girls will think it's heavenly.  i'm delivering dinner to two different families today so i need something quick and yummy for us!

i've selected monday as a night of the week for our family to eat a meatless meal as it tends to be more budget friendly as well as a friendlier option for the environment. my meat and potato eating husband tends to go along with this idea because i also make him a yummy dessert in addition to his meatless meal. what can i say, i'm nice like that.

tuesday : peperoncini beef sandwiches.  andy's request for the week.  and a big hello to my crockpot which i haven't used enough of lately.  these haven't been on the menu recently as they weren't exactly died friendly but man are they tasty!  and super easy. 

wednesday : breakfast casserole.  i've been thinking about this dish for the past week and need to make it already!  we always have this dish when i'm visiting home and when i was younger on christmas morning.  it'll seem like a special occasion!  yes, it's technically a breakfast dish but it takes an hour and a half to cook.  i'm not that patient in the morning nor are my children.  so i plan on making it in the am and then putting it in the oven after naps.  paired with some fruit, i'm going to call it good!

thursday : sausage, peppers, onions and garlicky tomatoes. unable to find a working link for this one that i pulled from an issue of woman's day earlier this year. this should definitely be a winner in andy's book.

friday : pizza.

a date with grey.

 

after not seeing much progress in a month or so, this is what happened to the kitchen last weekend.  it had a hot date with andy, his dad and some grey paint.  and it also looked a bit like a crime scene with blue plastic taped over everything to protect it from overspray.  but in two days, everything was primed, painted and clear coated.  a christmas miracle for sure.

so now we're just waiting on hinges to reinstall the doors, which andy ordered yesterday.  i'm surprised the girls haven't bothered anything in the lower cabinets.  especially L and the readily accessible colanders that she so dearly loves.

and that grey paint?  best decision ever.  totally makes the new countertops pop.  the end is in sight!
