while checking my twitter feed the other day, i noticed that lexi had given her boys a muffin tin picnic. i immediately responded that this was hands down the girls favorite lunch. the one they'll request every day if given the opportunity. the one that trumps any ol' drive-thru. the fact that i get to be a bit creative at time and hand select what goes into each muffin cup makes it a win/win situation for everyone. while in the check-out line at costco this morning, C was already requesting a "tray lunch."
[a sidenote : L is sporting her very first ever mizzou shirt. our tigers are still undefeated on the hardwood. and surely me making a note of it will jinx it all.]
when it was just C eating muffin tin lunches, i had a six cup muffin tin. although i've looked a few times for another tin for L, they seem to enjoy splitting the larger size tin and taking a peek at what the other got that they didn't due to likes/dislikes and age.
in today's tin, both girls had a piece of string cheese, brown rice crackers (they sampled them at costco and both enjoyed them - a healthy grain option? into my cart it goes!), grapes and a treat of four peanut butter m&ms. C also enjoyed raspberries as they were the last in the package and L doesn't enjoy them as much and sugar snap peas which L is still a bit young for. L got peas and some dried peaches.
at the end of lunch, which they enjoyed while watching their mutual love of a show on PBS, "word world," only a few peas remained on L's side.
it's amazing how simply dividing food into different sections of a muffin tin makes lunch exciting.

Wish my girls weren't too old for this, lol! Speaking of basketball, my Racers are one of the other three teams who are still undefeated right now. Looking to increase to 16-0 tomorrow against longtime rivals Austin Peay.

I've been really wanting to try out the muffin tin lunch for my little guy, but I'm nervous that, being a boy, he'll just play with the food or dump the whole thing out. We'll see. Worth a shot! I loved your Muffin Tin Mondays that you use to do!
