project life | week 20.

Bg 727 1

week 20.  just about 8 weeks behind but hoping to start getting caught up and adding project life back to my weekly routine.  trying to tackle the backlog of photo editing so that i can get started.  for this week, i used BasicGrey's clippings collection for the BG blog's week by week series

It’s crazy to look back at these photos of a very pregnant me now that I have an eight week old baby.  That’s one of the reasons I love this method of scrapbooking.  So many great bits of life are contained in each weekly spread.

[Left Page] An impromptu weeknight dinner out.  A baptismal birthday gift for my daughter.  My daughter’s first slush.  A trip to a local dairy farm and creamery.

My title card for this week.  Can I tell you how much I loved using the Clippings Alphabet Stickers for this project?  They always seemed to be the perfect finishing touch as there are three different sized layouts on one sheet.  Love how they all coordinate for such a cohesive look.

This collection also perfectly coordinated with this label from a bottle of milk we bought on our trip to a local creamery.  I simply cut a piece of paper to fit the slot of the page protector, added the label and then selected a border sticker for the top and bottom.

this is where i'll also note that apparently our "city" children didn't realize the milk they drink every day comes from a cow.  how is that possible?!  instead, they weren't too sure of the milk we purchased since they knew of it's origins.  they now refer to the white drink as "cow milk."

[Right Page] A trip to the park for playgroup.  A date night stop for funnel cake.  Crazy hot weather for Wisconsin in May.  Documenting my daughter’s love of french toast.  A photo of me on my due date.  My daughter’s redeeming prize tickets at a local restaurant.  Planting flowers on our deck.  My husband and daughter napping.

This collection made it easy to simply grab a sticker or two and personalize each piece of my layout.  Here I used not only stickers, but also stamps and a piece of our Snippets pad to document this Instagram photo of my love of funnel cake.

or alligator.  not sure which reptile my handsome boy is sporting.

my birthday.

a peek into my day yesterday.  more specifically, my birthday dinner.  made all that more memorable by two girls who decided to not take naps.

homemade puffy paint.

Mb 720

this morning after the breakfast dishes were put in the dishwasher and i had done a few chores, i decided to take the rest of the morning off from housework and do something fun with the girls while carson was napping.  a month or so ago, i ran across a recipe for homemade puffy paint that i knew camryn would love and decided this morning would be the perfect time to give it a try.

the recipe was super easy to put together and the girls enjoyed helping me mix the ingredients together.  they also thought microwaving their projects was quite entertaining as well.

this is the recipe that we used :

  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon + 2 teaspoons water
  • food coloring

mix everything together and start painting!  microwave completed painting for 20 seconds.  we acheived the best results when the paint was applied heavily rather than spread thinly.

was so nice to have a good use for the neon food coloring that had been stashed in the pantry for a rainy day.  who would've thought neon would be trendy once again?

menu plan monday : 7.16.12

Mealplanmonday_v21

i fell off the menu planning bandwagon last week with andy traveling but this is a new week, so time to get back to it.

meatless monday : french toast.  leighton has been requesting it for every meal so we're going to have breakfast for dinner.  i'm already looking forward to it.

i've selected monday as a night of the week for our family to eat a meatless meal as it tends to be more budget friendly as well as a friendlier option for the environment. my meat and potato eating husband tends to go along with this idea because i also make him a yummy dessert in addition to his meatless meal. what can i say, i'm nice like that.

tuesday : easy lemon chicken.  it's supposed to be something like 105 degrees tomorrow and i'm not turning on the oven.  instead my friend the crock-pot will be helping with dinner.  i didn't get to this one a couple of weeks ago due to having fourth of july leftovers but i have lemons waiting in the fridge and they will be put to use.

wednesday : dinner from a friend.  a friend from bible study offered to bring us dinner as she wasn't able to earlier.  i'm learning to accept help on occasion so i gladly accepted.

thursday : creamy tomato pasta.  i'm sneaking in another meatless meal this week.  we haven't had pasta in a while and when i saw this recipe on pinterest, i immediately pinned it.

friday : pizza.  not sure if we'll go homemade or delivery but it's always a great start to the weekend.  and my birthday weekend no less.

recent new recipe reviews :

baby red potato salad - this was okay.  nothing earth shattering but not terrible.  i actually enjoyed it better the next day after the flavors had melded a bit more.  i prefer pioneer woman's potato salad recipe better.

judy's baked beans - A-MAZ-ING.  in fact, i made it twice in five days.  everyloved it and i don't think i'll ever make baked beans any other way.

twix brownies - di-vine.  gooey and delicious.  will definitely be making this one again.

i call him a con artist.

Mb 715

i like to call him a con artist.  today was a perfect example of why.

he woke up from his nap but i didn't think he was really ready to wake up so i gave him his pacifier, closed his door and went back about my afternoon.  two minutes later, he started to cry again so i assumed i was incorrect.  HA!

i brought him downstairs and within seconds his eyes were shut tight and he was sleeping again.  and with a devious smile on his face letting me know he had won another round of this little game we are playing.

if he wasn't so cute...

jazz dance with tap shoes.

Mb 710

our summer continues to fly by at warp speed.  dance class has started again for camryn and she couldn't be more excited.  especially as this class is a mix of ballet, tap and jazz.  she has her own ballet shoes but she gets to "borrow" tap shoes.  a very exciting experience for a four year old.  so much so i had to snap a photo on my phone to text to her daddy.

after the hour long class, i asked her what her favorite part was and she exclaimed, "jazz dance with tap shoes!"

carson : 1 month.

Mb 73

can't believe that a month has already gone by since we welcomed this sweet boy into the world.  here we go on the monthly photo adventure again.  luckily he was very laid back and didn't seem to question why he was sitting in a recliner next to a stuffed hippo.  i figured it was only appropriate that he wore his captain shirt and of course that there was plaid involved.

at one month, carson :

  • weighs approximately 13.5 pounds per my weighing him this am.
  • is so very long and lanky.
  • continues to have blue eyes and little hair.  the hair he does have is super light.  his coloring is very much like camryn and i'm thinking they most resemble one another.
  • is starting to outgrow his 0-3 month clothes not because of weight but because everything is becoming too snug to snap because of his height.  his 0-3 month pants/shorts are still too large and tend to slide down.  thank goodness for a diaper to keep them up!
  • goes to bed between 8 and 8:30p and wakes up between 7 and 7:30p.  will often go back to sleep again after eating for another hour or so.
  • eats every 2-3 hours but will go longer stretches overnight.  he eats twice during the night.
  • doesn't seem to overly enjoy his pacifier but will take it.
  • is starting to enjoy his playmat, especially when i put him on his belly.
  • sleeps better during the day swaddled and at night with his arms out of his swaddle and by his head.  go figure!
  • takes a long nap in the morning and a shorter one in the afternoon and around dinner.  his am naps are between 2-3 hours and the other two are iffy and usually around an hour or so.  i also transitioned him to napping in his crib much earlier than i did with the girls and he doesn't seem to mind.  his sisters don't seem to have a volume control and i needed to put extra space between them.
  • nicknames... so far not really anything that's sticking.  he's often referred to as "buddy" by the girls and "handsome boy" by me.
  • is super easy going about being dragged here and there to various activites and outings. although with the hot weather, he gets super sweaty being in his infant carrier.
  • seems to now enjoy his bath and is content hanging out in his tub while his sisters are very LOUD in their bath.

looking back on the girls' one month update i had to laugh that he weighs exactly what leighton did at this age.  however given that he's probably 2" taller than she was, you'd never guess!
