1 lb. hamburger
1 large onion, diced
1 large green pepper, diced
3/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons mustard
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
brown meat with onion and green pepper. add all other ingredients and simmer for 30 minutes. serve on buns.
an original recipe from my grandma. a homemade sloppy joe mixture - oh, so tasty and way better than the stuff from a can. you can tell it's an original recipe as it calls for you to brown the hamburger in a tablespoon of fat. i tend to omit the green pepper if i don't have one on hand. i also use ground turkey instead of hamburger and it doesn't compromise the taste at all. it's heavenly on an onion roll. comfort food that makes me think of my grandma - nothing like it in the world.

Am adding this to my grocery list to make next week! Thanks dearie!

This looks very much like my families' recipe except we use brown sugar. YUM!
